A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR
Joshua Eickmeier
Dear Friends,
I am very proud to serve as Mayor of my hometown. On occasion, I run into people from other communities who don’t know that I’m the Mayor of Seward. But, when they do find out, I never get tired of the compliments I get for all the great qualities Seward exemplifies. I cannot give enough credit to the knowledgeable and experienced staff in City Hall and the various departments that keep the city running smoothly.
Since being sworn-in last December, I have been focused on a number of issues currently facing our community. One issue has been to address nuisance properties. Because we take great pride in our community, we have high standards for the appearance of our own property and our neighbors’ properties. The City will continue to work with property owners in an effort to keep Seward beautiful.
Although we find ourselves in tough economic times, I believe Seward’s future is very promising. Seward continues to have a lot going for it and while other communities saw population losses, Seward has continued to see steady growth.
Promoting economic development will continue to be a focus of mine. I am very pleased by the recent multi-million dollar expansion at Tenneco that created more than 100 local jobs. Last November, Seward contributed $100,000 of economic development money to Tenneco’s expansion project. The City will continue to look for ways to support existing businesses and industries that play such an important and integral role in our community’s future success. One particular area of emphasis is the downtown Business District. Not only do we need to support existing businesses, we need to attract new businesses to fill the empty storefronts in order to promote a vibrant downtown.
Together we can keep Seward moving forward.
Sincerely,
Josh
