The City of Seward takes pride in its thoroughfares. Our Street Department maintains all streets and street trees within the community. There are 42.94 total street miles and 96% of them are hard surfaced, 5% which are constructed of bricks that were built in the late 1900's. The brick streets help enhance the historic value of our community. The department is equipped so that 8" of snow can be removed within 16 hours.

 Street Department responsibilities include:
- snow removal
- tree and stump removal
- sweeping of streets
- gravel street and alley maintenance
- concrete street and sidewalk repair
- flood levee miantenance and pumping flood water over levee
- installation and maintenance of street signs
- sealing of street cracks and joints
- operating the wood disposal site
- mowing road sides and private lots
- spraying for mosquitoes
